The Korana Resort project represents a holistic architectural approach in which high-end hospitality is seamlessly integrated into the unspoiled natural landscape of the Korana River, creating a unique synergy between built form and environment.
Architecture and concept
Located on approximately 15 hectares along the banks of the Korana River, the Korana Resort is designed to intervene minimally in the existing terrain and natural topography, clearly expressing respect for the landscape and visual harmony with its surroundings. The architectural concept, developed by Lotus Architecti, goes beyond creating a tourist facility – it establishes an experiential environment rooted in a balanced coexistence with nature. The guiding principle of the design is not to dominate the landscape, but to shape and frame it through careful material selection, spatial organization, and restrained architectural expression. The hotel and its accompanying facilities are positioned to maintain a strong connection with the riverbank, opening carefully curated vistas toward forested slopes and natural greenery, reinforcing a sense of calm and immersion in the natural setting.
Programmatic diversity and spatial integration
The project consists of several distinct accommodation and recreational components:
-
A five-star hotel featuring wellness and spa facilities, indoor and outdoor pools, a restaurant, and a bar – organized over three levels and subtly embedded into the terrain to reduce visual impact.
-
Villas and glamping stilt units located along the riverbank, reinterpreting nature-based accommodation through contemporary architectural language, with covered terraces, transparent envelopes, and locally inspired materials.
-
A high-category campsite, along with an ethno-house, a restored mill, and multifunctional spaces – elements that enrich the resort’s program and support diverse user experiences.
The integrated design strategy reflects more than architectural intent alone; it acknowledges the dynamics of the landscape, seasonal changes, and local ecosystems, ensuring that interventions remain measured and environmentally sensitive.
Materials and sustainability
The material palette is dominated by locally sourced stone and wood, achieving both visual and tactile harmony with the surroundings while referencing regional building traditions. Green roofs further soften the architectural volumes and allow the structures to merge seamlessly with the natural relief. The project incorporates innovative infrastructure systems adapted to the site’s constraints, including biological wastewater treatment and water-source heat pump systems, reinforcing an environmentally responsible and long-term sustainable approach.
Interior design and spatial experience
Interior spaces are conceived to maximize the relationship between indoors and outdoors. Wellness, pool, and sauna areas are designed as fluid spatial sequences that transcend conventional boundaries, intensifying the sensory connection between guests and the surrounding landscape. The extensive use of natural materials, large glazed surfaces, and open views toward the river and forest creates an atmosphere of warmth and understated sophistication, avoiding visual conflict with the site’s natural character.
