Arches, a rose window, stone – and an Istrian villa with a difference

In a peaceful setting near the centre of Višnjan, with views towards the town and the sea, a contemporary Istrian villa has been created that avoids a literal interpretation of local architecture. Stone, roof tiles, arches and a rose window connect it with tradition, while its spatial organisation, expansive glazing and the dark glazed break between the two volumes are distinctly contemporary. Architects Maja Bručić and Ivan Zloušić of Lotus Architecti / LAD 1 Studio designed the house so that it does not reveal itself all at once. As one moves through the interior, views towards the swimming pool, the semi-enclosed courtyard garden, Višnjan and the surrounding landscape unfold in sequence, almost like a series of cinematic frames…
